Bill Gates Accused Cryptos of People’s Deaths, Related to Drug Sells

One of the wealthiest people on the planet, Microsoft Corporation top patron and opinion leader on the sphere of technologies Bill Gates believes that cyber money’s anonymity is rather a negative phenomenon than the positive one.

On top of that, Gates expressed his concern over cryptos which can often be used for malicious purposes. In particular, he said that this unusual tech trend has already directly led to deaths.

Is Gates Against Cryptos?

His opinion Gates shared on Reddit during the session “Ask Me Anything,” which took place on February 27.

Gates literally said he does not think that cyber money’s anonymity is a good thing as long as it can cause money laundering, terrorism supple as well as tax evasion. But what is worse, according to his words, is that people get lethally affected by the usage of cryptos.

“Right now cryptocurrencies are used for buying fentanyl and other drugs, so it is a rare technology that has caused deaths in a fairly direct way,” said Gates.

By the way, when it comes to drugs, the situation might not be univocal either. As per 2017 Global Drug Survey data, less than 50% of drug users buy mixtures with the help of dark web in any state of the world. It means that drug dealers still stick to traditional ways of conducting their “businesses.”

Microsoft’s genius also added that everything that is currently going on around digital assets and ICOs is speculative and carries lots of jeopardies for people.

Some Reddit users opposed Gates’ view, saying that public currencies can be used for the same illegal purposes either.

Therefore, Gates explained that indeed anonymous fiat cash is utilized for unlawful practices, but a person is obliged to be physically present to make a transaction. Accordingly, various illegal activities, including kidnapping payments are harder to carry out.
